Choosing Kids’ Room Window Treatments

Kitchen Window Treatments Banded Shades for Kitchens

At Window Treats serving Monmouth Beach, we’ve found that many of our customers are particularly stressed about the treatments they choose for their kids’ rooms. And we get it—it’s hard enough to choose treatments for the rest of the home, but a kid’s room can have a variety of different needs, especially through their lifetime. But don’t worry! We have a few tips for how to approach this purchase below. Read on!

Avoid Hazards

Safety is a huge consideration all over the home, especially if you have particularly small children, but it’s of particular importance in their own rooms, where they can frequently discover trouble without your knowledge. Which is why keep hazards out is important. Older window treatments frequently have dangling cords that can choke kids and pets. (Which alone is a solid reason to change out the treatments in your kids’ rooms!) Cordless treatments eliminate that hazard—the best of the best is an automated lift system like PowerView® Automation, which lets you control the treatment’s movement with the touch of a button. Another excellent option is LiteRise®, which lets you raise and lower the treatment by pushing up or pulling down on the bottom rail.

Eliminating Light

Of course, you want your kids to get good sleep—which might mean daytime napping or a bedtime that’s before sundown in the summer. That’s why you might want to consider treatments that block as much light as possible. Consider shades with room-darkening fabrics. A great option is the Vignette® Modern Roman Shade, which is also available with a blackout liner or the Duolite® option that essentially gives you two shades in one.

Fun Style

This is a kid’s room, so it doesn’t have to be serious—it can look great while still having playful fabrics and colors, which can help a child feel good about their space. The Duette® Cellular Shade comes in a number of designs and textures that can appeal to a child’s sense of joy. Plus, their honeycomb design helps insulate the window, keeping the inside air in and the outside air out, so you can better control the room’s temperature. Just remember, as you’re deciding on that “fun/playful” look, a window treatment is an investment, so a good bet is to find something that will grow with your child. If it’s too juvenile, you might need to replace it sooner rather than later, so be sure to explore some more “mature” styles as well.
